so i'm finally back in northville
it was a long semester, i didn't do as well as i wanted to in my classes, but i think i accopmlished more this semester then i ever have before
after i packed up and made my way back home i went to one of the best classes that CMU has to offer, it was a week long trip to NYC. just awesome. we went to a few companies to how they ran things, best companies were:
Toys 'R Us, they pretty much just walked us thru the store, and gave us little facts. on of the guys there was a CMU grad from a year ago and he was already a department manager, gives me a little hope.
UPS, first off they had a huge confrance room with nice big leather chairs, hands down best confrance room all week. we got to see how the entire operation works and the understood my King of Queens refrance, awesome place.
Golf for Women magazie. i know, i don't golf and i'm not a women, but it was still sweet. they told us how they get all there advertisers and how they make the book look good, and they gave us breakfast.
Sports Illustrated On Campus: it was cool, they told us the whole theroy and purpose behide putting out a free mag to college students, they pluged there campus consutant program alot
AMC: these people were alright, they do all the buying for Target and a few other places, but the prestentaion was pretty boring and at leat 75% of us were hung over.
Saks, Fifth Avenue: they gave us a tour like Toys 'R Us did, but saks isn't a toy store, its a rich person's personal shoper, it was boring as hell
that was the class part of the trip, i'll have a seperate entry for the fun stuff, and it won't be another three months before i update again
just thought i'd drop a line while i have a min at the desk. the past 4 weeks have been pretty damm intense, i don't think i've had much more then an hour or so of free time. i know i havn't been around to talk to people, and i'm sorry about that, but i should have more free time after saturday, and then i've got spring break in about a week and half...oncw we get there I'll ya'll a story or two.
till i have time again
that pretty much sumsit up
in the past week i've gotten a job that pretty much requires me to sit at the front desk when know one is walking in. in fact i'm working right now, i'm getting paid while i type this.
for almost all my classes i've been seperated into some sort of group, most of the groups are all right and we should be able to get everything done on time. just gonna be a lot of work
i signed up for one class that will give me a trip to New York City a few days after finals, it should be a great time. do some school stuff in the morning then prolly a little nap, then have a good time in NYC. already paid $100 bucks for it, should be fun
now for the one that not even i saw coming, so get ready, sit down, and put down any drink you may have
i've decided that i need something more on the 'ol resume to make it look a little better, so i thought i'd join Alpha Kappa Psi (AKY). don't know really what i'm getting myself into here but it looks like it'll be a good time in the end, and could really help the job search thing, AKY is like the oldest bis frat there is, it'll be tough to do, but it'll be worth it
Mon, Jan. 17th, 2005, 01:04 am
so i havn't touched this in a while, guess i havn't had much to say
let's recap. finished first semester with a 3.0, that was good. then it was time for the break. had an alright time, hung out with people, worked a bit, went to the GLI it was good times for the most part. but like all breaks, it was short and now its back to school
class look like they'll be ok this semester if i can get along with the people in my classes, i'll geve you the brake down (skip if you don't care)
MWF, 10am- MKT 310, this one looks ok, marketing communoications, but there is a huge group project thats going to be 40% of the grade, but the prof seems pretty good.
MWF, noon - ENG 201, Advanced Comp. this is going to be a bitch, we're going to read 4 book in about a month. there are two 10-15 page papers and the prof seems a bit of ditz, our first assingment is to make an anotetated works cited page, we don't have to do a paper, just works cited. it'll be intresting.
MW, 2pm - MKT 350, Marketing research. this one could be kinda fun, were actually doing research for a company that owns some of the apartment places here so that'll be a good feel for things, it seems to be mostly group work in this one, we formed teams on the second day
TR, 11am- MKT 305, Buy Behavior, this one is alright, we have to write a huge research paper, but if i want i can use the research form the 350 class so its a paper i'm already writing, or i can write it on something that i might be intrested in, not sure on that one yet.
TR, 12:30pm - MKT 325, this one is great, we only have class on tuesday, thursday is optional, there are no tests, he just gives us an assingment on tuesday and we have till the next week or maybe two to finish it and turn it in. the first project is to go to a store, hang out there for 2 hours and write 5 pages about it
TR, 2pm - MKT 315, advertising media, seems alright so far, but yet more group work, prof put the groups together we even had to name the group the stuff seems easy enough
so to summerize, lots of papers, lots of group work, lots of marketing classes, little free time
lets see what else, been hanging out in saxe alot this week, its been good times, tho some plans have fallen thru, but they can be made up its been an alright week
well now to stay up late because there be no class on monday
i'll explain why
1) my 8 am stats class was cancelled so i didn't have to get up for that just had to wake up in time for my mgt class at 11
2) after my mgt class i went to get some lunch and they were playing iron man by black sabbath
3 and the best part of the day) THERE WAS HOCKEY with red wings and yzerman fedorov was there too. lets tell the story
got out of class about 3 and went over to chris's place to meet up with him, tammy, and dan. we finally got on our way down to ann arbor about 4, it was an alright ride down but the music sucked. once down in AA it was decided that we should go get something to eat, other decided that it should be at max and errma's i thought it would take to long but was overruled. and surprise of all surprises it took to long so when we finally got to yost there was barely any place to sit and we all had to split up. dan, tammy and i sat up behide the pro's home end, but we were pretty far up so we could see the entire ice. chris was somewhere else with some of his friends that he met there. but it was beyond crowded there. it was a great game, tho not much hitting and no penilties. i did manage to find sara and laura during the first intermission, got yelled at that there were other people sitting there.
after the game yzerman and draper were signing stuff that people were hanging over the boards for them, so i take my jersey down and throw it over, yzerman starts grabing stuff going in a straight line and mine is next, i drop it to get it signed and some guy picks it up and gives it back to me, WITHOUT getting it signed. my luck continues.
but it was a good game, would have been a little better if someone had shut the annuncer up and if i had gotten an autograph, but it was still awesome. hopefulluy something will come of the meeting on the 9th
so i guess i do give up.
congrats stats you have finally won, you've beaten me. for the frist time since middle school i have a class that i have absolutly no grasp on what the hell is going on.
i surrenederd to your test today, i've surrendered to your homework most of the semester. well no more. i will not surreneder to anymore
god damm i hate stats
it'll be good to be home tonight
Ode to the Nice Guys
This rant was written for the Wharton Undergraduate Journal
This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.
This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.
This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you’d ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: “oh, but we’re just friends!” And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that.
The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches
. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as “oh, he’s too nice to date” or “he would be a good boyfriend but he’s not for me” or “he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn’t possibly ask him out!” or the most frustrating of all: “no, it would ruin our friendship.” Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.
So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming.
So all day i've heard about how horrable it is that Bush won, i've herd all the people saying that they are going to move to canada and all that other shit. and with all due respect, shut up.
i'm sorry but you got everything you wanted out of this election but the results. you got record voter turn out in most places, you got a clean vote almost entirly clear of question, yes there are a few precints that are in question but even if every single one of those votes were for karry he still wouldn't win. I'm sorry but more then half the country (at least of those who voted) said that they want Bust to lead the country.
look you wanted people to come out and vote and they did, they just voted for bush, get over it
and yes i did vote for bush, and no i don't agree with him all the time about everything, i just agreed with him more then i agreed with kerry. and yes i'm a little worried that congress now has a reblican majority, i don't think one party should controll everything you need another voice in there to keep everything in balance, but i voted and there is nothing i can do about and i'm still proud to be American, and i always will be no matter who is leading it.

Fox Sports Net just showed game two of the 1998 Stanly Cup finals red wings v. caps. such a good game, and draper with the OT winner. i was surprised at how in to the game i really got. once i adjusted to who all the players were, its surprising how much the wings have stayed the same in the pas six years (even down the the BMW ad in front of the wings bench). but it was good to just watch a hockey game again. and it seems i'll get a few over the next few weeks. FSN is running a whole best of the wings thing. i love it. next one is monday night.
what else has been going on...got my stasts midterm back, got like an 80% on it, i'll take it. took a marketing test on tuesday, it wasn't that bad but we'll see how it goes also been working a bit on this project for marketing. the professor wants some weird shit for this paper. he wants a table of contents and he wants the paper broken up into sections with titles. i've never had to do that, i've had profs tell me not to section off papers in my college writing class in high school we were told never to section off papaers like that. oh well what ever the old man wants
looks like i'm gonna head home this weekend, not much goin on here and its been a while since i've been homenot sure if i'm gonna go home tomorrow after marketing or friday after phyisics, right now i'm leaning a little more towards tomorrow tho. hopefully it will be a good weekend, looking forward to a good breifing by nick and danny

a sad day
just a little rant:
today was supposed to be the opening game of the red wings 2004-2005 season. it will not happen because the owners and the players are both greedy bastards. i tend to agree with the owners a little bit more when they say something but both of these sides need to just hammer out an agreementi don't care if its a salary cap or a luxery tax, it doesn't fucking matter. whatever side of the bargining table your on the NHL is an entertaiment based buisness and right not no one is being entertained. i've tried to watch other things to replace my need for hockey, but in all honesty base ball is boring, be it sox-yanks playoffs or regular season tigers, its just not that exciting to watch on TV. i can kinda get in to the lions and bills games, but i have very little intrest in any of the other teams, and appently pistions preseason has started. i don't like basketball. i can't play it. i don't like it. i need to get excited about a goal, i can't do that when a team scores over 100 pointes in a game, or even over 60 i just can't get excited for that. so i guess the lions and bills will give me a once a week sports fill till december (as much as we'd all like to see it, myself included, the lions may not make the playoffs) but what i like about the wings is that between october and april all 30 teams play 82 games each, whitch means more then one game a week. grrrrrrrrr. i guess i'll just have to keep using NHL 2004 to simulate each game as the time comes. god damm that world cup of hockey, it was great while it was happening. but now its mocking me. it was the NHL saying "see how great hockey is" and then like the soup nazi they proclaim "NO HOCKEY FOR YOU!!"
acording to my game results the Wings dominated the Oilers 5-2 with Lang getting at hat trick. only scarry thing is FSN did the same simultation and got the same end score with a lang hat trick.
i don;t care how it ends, just end it soon
